Curricular Alignment
Curricular Alignment Grids: A Blueprint for Success
To measure competencies, learning activities must be strategically placed within the curriculum. Determining which simulated experiences and activities are best for your unique program can be overwhelming and time-consuming for both leadership and faculty. Curricular alignment grids are provided as examples to depict the program, course, and daily lesson plan levels of integration. The grids include a breakdown of the amount of time associated with pre-simulation, post-simulation, and simulation learning activities.
Course alignment examples are provided based on specialty areas, competencies, content area, or professional standards (such as the NCSBN Clinical Judgement Measurement Model) as well as the suggested time for each learning experience to visualize intentional placement.

Daily lesson plans are provided to guide faculty with the structure for the adoption of our resources. For example, a plan is devised for lab skills, two pre-simulation, two post-simulation activities, and the EMPOWER® Debrief model to create a 6-hour experience in the clinical learning lab. To facilitate group work and maintain lab ratios, learners can rotate through small group stations to complete each portion of the lab experience throughout the day. The learners may immediately apply the EMPOWER® Debrief to collectively summarize learning and review outcome attainment.
